The 12 Days of Christmas | Seven Swans A-Swimming

"Seven Swans a-Swimming"

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Christmas as CKC. Kelly here with the next verse, "seven swans a-swimming." When I think if swans, I immediately think of the story of The Ugly Duckling. A little duck whom everyone ignores turns into a beautiful swan.

The same transformation happens around my house every Christmas--I turn a huge pile of assorted presents into a beautiful landscape for under the tree using just wrapping paper and ribbon. I love wrapping presents! I spend a while each year picking out just the right wrapping paper. I then take each present and lovingly wrap it up in shiny paper and frilly ribbon. My little ducks turn into beautiful swans to wait underneath the tree until Christmas Day!

For this page, I used my Christmas kit, Holiday Magic.

The gift tag chipboard die cut was just perfect for this page!

We still have a few days left of our journey through the 12 Days of Christmas. Make sure to stop by and see how this carol inspired our Master Forgers. Happy Holidays!

The 12 Days of Christmas | Six Geese A-Laying

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.... Six geese a-laying....

Hi again, Lisa here for the next instalment in our "12 days of Christmas" series here on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog. We are now at the sixth day and that means, it's all about the geese.

But first up, I decided to pull together a small kit of older product to get me started. I recently (re)discovered several older Shimelle Christmas kits which I broke up and put into my Christmas drawer (in fact, now two drawers) and so I was able to have a good rummage and combine some interesting products to ensure variety and fun.

And then I had to get inspired by those geese! Well, here in Germany it's really typical to eat goose at this time of year and I love to get into that wintery, festive way of thinking with a dinner of roast goose, red cabbage and potato dumplings. Mmmmmm. And the inspiration for my page was born.

I had some cute photos of me and my mum from last year when my husband and I celebrated and our birthdays with a family goose dinner and decided to bring that together with a bit of extra background story. I like that our birthdays coincide with the start of Christmas festivities here in German - we often celebrate on the 1st Advent weekend - and the page has a seasonal touch to it but not so much that it looks out of place for a birthday theme.

The photos were not the best quality due to low restaurant light so I printed them at 2x3 which also meant that I could include not only the food but also three of the many goofy pictures we'd taken - most of the time, my mum hates to have her photo taken!

I often forget to print my journalling on strips like this but I was inspired my Master Forger Kelly and always love the look of it and the fact that you can fit in a lot more story than if you hand-write it.

Not the best food photo but one that reminds me of the flavours of the evening!

I hope I've shown how it's possible to make a page with definitely Christmassy products about an event that's not all about Christmas! I don't make many layouts just about Christmas itself, so it's always important for me to find ways to use up my treasured festive product on pages that tell stories around the season. Maybe you have the same problem? If so, I'd love to see projects you've made using that jolly holly stash!

The 12 Days of Christmas | Five Golden Rings

Hello! Susan here to share my project based on the classic Christmas carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

I selected the fifth verse - "five golden rings".  Gold is a precious metal and as scrapbookers, what can be more precious to us than our memories? So I decided that my page would feature five especially precious Christmas memories of mine and the design would be completely dictated by that verse.

I used my Big Shot to die-cut five circular wreaths accented with stars and then lightly misted them with some Heidi Swapp color shine in gold (of course).  I placed a photo representing a memory inside each ring, and added them to the page along with my journaling  I kept the embellishments simple - several trios of tiny gold stars and a washi tape border reinforce the golden theme of my verse.

I hope this inspires you to add a little golden sparkle to a holiday project.  Don't forget to stop by again to see how the rest of the team interpreted their verses.  Happy Holidays!

The 12 Days of Christmas | Four Calling Birds

Julene here from sunny and hot Australia.

Christmas Day looks more like this in Australia.
A selection of tradition meats but cold with salad

or maybe a seafood feast

This is followed by pavlova or hot Christmas pudding.

You might see silly sights on cards like this too!

Which brings me to my page for the 12 days of Christmas..........4 calling birds.

I started with a window page I had.
It featured 4 windows.
As it was a non Christmas colour, I pasted another Christmas paper over the top and cut out the windows.
The black you see is metallic silver.

Next I chose 4 Australian bird photos from my trips this year.
I had matching puffy stickers.(I used those on the corners)
Using silver and white washi tape I framed the windows, then added a thin strip of holly washi tape across the centre.

My alphas are black and white.

The bird top right is a kookaburra. Listen to the noise I wake up to each morning.......

They are famous for their laugh which took me to the journal phrase "Laugh out loud."
It describes the festivity of Christmas to me!

Have a wonderful and safe Christmas everyone!
See you next year!

The 12 Days of Christmas | Three French Hens

"Three French Hens"

Welcome back to the 12 Day of Christmas at Counterfeit Kit Challenge! Kelly here again with the third verse, "three French hens." I am again using my December kit, Holiday Magic.

For this verse, my inspirational thought process when something like this:
Three French hens.
Hens--we have hens.
Hens who give us eggs.
Eggs which we use to make Christmas cookies!

And here is my page, Baking.

I used two patterned papers with dots and lots of enamel dots to reinforce the circle theme reflected in the round mixing bowl and shape of the cookies. Now I'm ready to do some actual baking!

I hope you are being inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas here at CKC. Be sure to link up your posts to our Facebook page!

The 12 Days of Christmas | Two Turtle Doves

"On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me, two turtle doves....."

Ah! Lisa here and as soon as I thought of that line, I knew I wanted to make a page about spending Christmas with my husband. I know doves aren't necessarily connected with love but I had that connection in my head and when I saw the paper in the Crate Paper Falalala collection featuring birds, I knew this was a match made in heaven!

I don't know about you, but I can't resist Christmas collections and will always get one or two. The problem is that I just don't make many Christmas pages and anyway, the latest collection is always "too" nice to use right away. Before I know it, it's the next year and I realise that I have that gorgeous set of Pinkfresh/Crate/Shimelle etc from the previous year which is untouched and now there's a new set of gorgeous stuff to buy and hoard keep!

So this year true to form, I just had to get everything I could lay my hands on in the Falalala collection but I decided to just get it cut into as soon as I could. This page is the result.

I know it's not really a curated Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit but we are all about using up our much loved stash so that's the link for me!

Here's my products - look at that cute bird paper! It's so perfect for this page.

And I pulled together this simple page based on those "two turtle doves".

Sorry for the photo tags! An internet shy partner calls for creative solutions!

This was a really quick and simple page with a little journalling around the edge just to tell the main details of the day, place and my thoughts at that time. Everything is from the Crate Paper collection except the small gold letters (Studio Calico) and it feels so good to see these items being used - as beautiful as they look on my desk, all shiny and new!

The 12 Days of Christmas | A Partridge in a Pear Tree

"A Partridge in a Pear Tree"

Today we begin our December projects with the first verse of The 12 Days of Christmas, "a partridge in a pear tree." This is Kelly--bringing you the first project.

For the layouts I am making this holiday season, I put together this kit which I am calling Holiday Magic. I combined some October Afternoon Christmas papers, stickers, and embellishments with papers and die cuts from the 25th and Pine collection from Basic Grey. I added a few more holiday embellishments from various collections to round out this kit.

And here is my first layout, Our Tree.

I took inspiration from the verse "a partridge in a pear tree" to create a page featuring an ornament from our Christmas tree last year. I love to take photographs of the individual ornaments throughout the holiday season.
